Demonstrations in Norway apropos ditto abroad

Previous demonstrations:

Here in Norway there was a demonstration in Oslo on Tuesday 5 January, with about 40-50 people (very good in this cold weather!).

More videos and pictures keep turning up on the internet from the demonstrations around the world. When these are from demonstrations which have already been given postings above in this thread, the new documentation is added in the existing postings – look at each posting with a provided date of demonstrations – that is: without new postings being added to the thread.

New demonstrations are planned in Norway (Oslo) on 28 May and 11 June (see below), possibly also in Trondhjem. So far there do not seem to be any definite, announced arrangements abroad.

The newspaper Vårt Land again – hellbent on believing, and on harming the already ill-treated

The Christian, but extremely state-subservient newspaper Vårt Land continues its crusade against people who protest against Barnevernet’s abuse. Here is chief of the news desk Trygve Jordheim, who thinks it is a conspiracy, thinks the fact that people demonstrate is freedom of speech which does harm, and misleads foreigners into misunderstanding and fearing the Norwegian state and not seek the help which exists here in the “help services”.

Den skadelige barnevernskonspirasjonen (The harmful Barnevern conspiracy)
Demonstrantene tror de hjelper innvandrerbarn ved å advare mot barnevernet. De kunne ikke tatt mer feil.
Vårt Land, 31 May 2016

He speaks about the “frustration” that he could see on many faces at the 28 May demonstration. With contempt. Frustration? People who have been deprived of their loved children?
Mr Jordheim does not want the Norwegian “conspirators” to mislead these poor foreigners.
He comes up with “ideals”: that Barnevernet is there to help children who need it, not to destroy immigrant families, he says. Heard it before?
He seems utterly locked into not finding out anything about whether the ideal is being practiced.

Correction: I wrote that this concerned the newspaper Dagen. It should be Vårt Land, and I have corrected it here. I regret any inconvenience!

Some of the statements in his comment are frightening.

One of the headings says: Freedom of speech that damages. (Ytringsfrihet som gjør skade)

Truth can hurt, and in true democracies we have to put up with the fact that people whom we dislike can express opinions that we dislike. But can freedom of speech practiced the way Jordheim describes really do damage? Isn`t it rather the assumption that one of our most basic rights is damaging that is upsetting?

Trygve Jordheim says: Many with a minority background fear the authorities, because they come from countries where they have a reason to do so. ( Mange med minoritetsbakgrunn frykter myndighetene, fordi de kommer fra et land der de har grunn til å gjøre det.)

Even though people like Jordheim find it hard to believe, we are also many who have reason to fear the Norwegian authorities. I am not the only father who found flight out of Norway as the only option to avoid a family disaster. Nevertheless, most journalists I have talked to are not interested in our story.

Jordheim argues like the Norwegian authorities themselves: The trust in the Norwegian CPS - or rather the lack of such - is not the responsibility of the CPS, but the responsibility of people who talk badly about "Barnevernet".

With this kind of reasoning, totalitarianism is waiting around the next corner.

The waves of protest against Norwegian Barnevern
By Aage Simonsen
Dr.Scient, former member of the Client Committee, the Social Office of Central Bergen

••
This comment was published in Norwegian in Aftenposten on 15 June 2016. It has been translated and published here with the author's kind consent.
••

The last years have seen a wave of protests against Norwegian child protection. Elisabeth Backe-Hansen and Jan Storø at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences claim, in a debate article in Aftenposten on 27 May, an article out of harmony with reality, that the demonstrations were directed against me and all other Norwegians.

I have several times given speeches at the demonstrations, without having observed even a single poster directed against child protection, as claimed by Storø and Backe-Hansen. The demonstrations are directed against Norwegian child protection the way it functions today.

No Barnevern critic thinks that children should not be protected against violence or serious lack of care. The portrayal of the Barnevern critics as extreme Christian fundamentalists is totally without meaning. Instead of promoting non-objective demagogy, Storø and Backe-Hansen should go into the objective and to-the-point criticism of Barnevernet, and think through how the system may be changed for the better.

**

The article referred to:
Elisabeth Backe-Hansen og Jan Storø:
La oss bli tydelige i barneverndebatten: Det er DEG de demonstrerer mot
(Let us be clear in the Barnevern debate: YOU are the one they are demonstrating against)
Dette er sivilisasjonsstrid, ikke debatt om noen skarve barnevernssaker.
(This is a battle about civilisation, not a debate about a few miserable child protection cases.)
Aftenposten, 27 May 2016

A remark: When Backe-Hansen, Storø and Barnevernet claim to stand for civilisation in what they do and what they encourage, says a lot about an idea of what civilisation is which is promoted by politically correct voices up here on top of the world.
MHS

**

Artikles etc by Aage Simonsen:

Barnevernets saksbehandling (Case handling done by Barnevernet)
Barnevernets metoder (Barnevernet's methods)
Barnevern og manglende rettssikkerhet  (Child protection and lack of protection under the law) (with Jan Simonsen)
Barnevern og narkomane (Child protection and drug addicts)
Barnevernets asyl (The place of refuge provided by Barnevernet)
Håndbok for klientutvalg og barnevernsofre (Handbook for Client Committees and Barnevernet's victims)
