Brazil's embassy helps mother and child against abuse from the child protection services

***This is a (rough and quick) translation of Arild Holta's posting "Brasils ambassade hjelper mor og barn mot barnevernsovergrep" in the forum's section "Internasjonale konflikter og skade på Norges renommé".***

Quote:
Child protection case in the process of becoming a diplomatic headache

A Brazilian woman, who together with her three year old daughter has taken refuge at the Brazilian embassy after a child protection case, is at the centre of a conflict now being described as "completely deadlocked".

The Brazilian mother and child sought refuge in the embassy last week, after an emergency decision by the child protection services to take the child out of the family.

The woman is now given full support by Brazil's amabassador to Norway, despite the child protection services' decision that the mother is to be temporarily deprived of her care for the child.

http://www.nrk.no/norge/soker-tilflukt- ... 1.11395063

A steadily expanding group of the largest countries in the world have acted in accordance with the UN and the European Court of Human Rights and have protested against Norwegian child protection. Brazil, with its more than 200 million people, is ranged as the fifth largest in terms of inhabitants and area. India, Russia, Nigeria, and now also Brazil shows its disgust at Norwegian "child protection pretence". Among the larger European countries, Poland and Turkey have had conflicts with Norwegian child protection fanaticism.

Quote:
Parental right is an international human right, and in a case like this one, is what comes into conflict with the decision of the Norwegian Child Protection Services, says Matlary to NRK.
(Translator's note: Janne Haaland Matlary (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janne_Haaland_Matláry) is a professor of political science and also a well-known politician. NRK is the national, public broadcasting company (tv and radio).)

Parental right and authority is a natural right from the beginning of time. Norwegian children have of course not suddenly evolved away from this and adapted to bureaucrats and anybodies as mother and father. Children are deadly scared of these phony rights consisting of losing their parents. Or has bureaucracy "evolutioned" itself to everybody's mother: BigMama ?

The case is fortunately receiving some publicity in Brazil, evidently. Here is an article in Portuguese:

Para não perder guarda da filha, brasileira se refugia na embaixada em Oslo (In order not to lose custody of her daughter, Brazilian takes refuge in the embassy in Oslo)
OperaMundi, 04.12.2013

This article is more informative than the one translated from Norwegian and linked to above:
Norway wants Brazil kid in care 'for eating wrong'
The Local, 4 December 2013

Goodness: The child protection people are of the opinion that the daughter doesn't "eat right" ? Reminiscent of the Bhattacharya case in which the CPS held that the children were not being fed right - they were hand-fed:
Indiske barn konfiskert - Såkalt barnevern ignorer ambassade
(The thread is mainly in Norwegian but many articles are in English.)

More publicity in Portuguese, apparently copied from OperaMundi above:

Here is an article in the Daily Mail (in England).

Brazilian mother forced to flee to her country's embassy in Norway - -
Daily Mail, 5 December 2013

Like The Local, these people too are ignorant about the end of the Bhattacharya case. They say that the father "admitted" that his wife has mental problems, this being the reason why the children were taken by the CPS. They also say that the two Bhattacharya children now live with their uncle in India. The reality is, of course, that the children live with their mother Sagarika, who in spite of persecution and terror from Norwegian CPS, and in spite of the husband and his family having sacrificed her, apparently to gain some advantage or other with the CPS, is completely normal. - Journalists are generally useless in child protection cases.

At long last the story is picked up by two Norwegian newspapers in the Drammen/Buskerud district where the mother has been living:

Flyktet fra barnevernet til ambassade
Drammens Tidende, 9./10. desember 2013

Flyktet fra barnevernet til ambassade
Laagendalsposten, 9 December 2013

It may be accidental that it has taken them so long, but the Norwegian press has also been instructed to play down, preferably be silent about, child protection cases in which the families desperately try to get publicity about the way the CPS behaves. The press is rather afraid of going against the authorities and continuing until the realities are clearly established. (Freedom of speech and information is for Norway to lecture other countries about, not to be practiced here when one's opinions are "not politically correct".)

Quote (translation mine):
The administrative head of the municipality concerned does not wish to go into the details of the case.
- We are in a good dialogue with the Brazilian embassy. Both parties are interested in finding a good solution for the child, says the head of the municipality.

Ah, indeed - what kind of "solution" might this be? Is there anybody who doubts that the CPS will continue to be "engaged"? The CPS knows extremely well that if they let even a single family get away, an avalanche will result.

A Russian website has noticed the child protection case Brazil/Norway:

The Norwegian juvenile terror does of children of refugees
RU facts, 13 December 2013

They see the connection with a similar case Russia/Norway and with one India/Norway.

Given the mother's lack of willingness to be interviewed and the minimal discussion of the case in Norway, so it's great that so many foreign media writes about it. It suggests that the world has discovered that Norway torture families.

A few more examples win through on Google. Many of them are dated as early as 5 December, but only now have they risen to a place on a search list. Most of them are more or less copies of the Daily Mail article. In addition to articles with permanent web-addresses there are entries also on facebook and twitter pages where the case disappears by and by as newer things are added.

A few of the "new" ones:

The case of Brazilian Pernambuco and Victoria and her daughter 3 years.

Oy Oy !
Apparently success: Mother and daughter back in Brazil, it seems! Bravo, bravissimo! What a splendid Christmas present, we rejoice with them!

Mor og barn på flukt – fikk endelig reise hjem til Brasil (Mother and child fleeing - could finally go home)
Moren som søkte tilflukt med datteren i Brasils ambassade, er tilbake i sitt hjemland. (The mother who took refuge in the Brazilian embassy, together with her daughter, are back in their homeland.)
dt.no, 18 December 2013

I do not quite understand why several days have gone by before that article turned up in my google search. On the other hand, I am not at all surprised that the story has been given "the silent treatment" by Norwegian tv/radio - at least I have not heard or seen even a pip, nothing before today.

The newspaper reporting the success is Drammens Tidende (Drammen's Newspaper), i.e the local paper of the district in which the family resided. The statement made by the Child Protective Service seems to do quite a lot of "explaining away". Nor should we expect anything else: They cannot admit that their planned actions are crazy. - Ah, they found out that a long period of living in the embassy would not be to the child's advantage? Indeed! But an even longer residence under CPS's forced separation of the child from her mother and in the forced care of the unit's own creatures, this they find would not have been to the child's disadvantage! And all the while they brand the care which the child will have in its own family in Brazil as "of course" inferior! Norway has certainly produced for itself "professional child expertise" of some standard!

And the embassy and the family's lawyer have had to "cooperate" and "document" to the priceless Norwegian Child Protection Service.

Sounds like a hitherto lost penultimate act in "The Importance of Being Earnest", Oscar Wilde's comedy with the subtitle "A Trivial Comedy for Serious People".
