Will it be forbidden to show the videos of how children
are taken from their parents by the police and the CPS?

The mayor of Surnadal on the west coast of Norway has asked the Minister of Children, Equality and Social Inclusion, Solveig Horne (the Progress Party), to take the initiative to stop parents from publishing on social media videos of the actions in which Barnevernet (= the child protection authority, CPS) and the police take children out of the home, often by force.

Ber Horne bremse barnevernsvideoer (Asks Horne to put the brakes on child protection videos)
Driva, 9 February 2016

"Ordfører Lilly Gunn Nyheim (Ap) i Surnadal ber barne- og likestillingsminister Solveig Horne få slutt på at folk kan spre videoer av barnevern og politi som henter barn ut av familier."
(Mayor Lilly Gunn Nyheim (Labour Party) in Surnadal asks child- and equality minister Sorveig Horne to put a stop to people spreading videos of CPS workers and police fetching children out of families.)

"Nyheim annerkjenner folks rett til å dokumentere omsorgsovertakelser til bruk i eventuelle rettssaker, men hun vil ha slutt på spredningen på youtube og sosiale medier."
(Nyheim accepts people's right to document transfers of care for use in possible court cases, but she will have an end to their being stread on youtube and social media.)

In other words: Mayor Nyheim wants to limit the use of the information to the court cases, which are in any case secret (the secrecy of family courts), and for that reason do not contribute to the families obtaining real help against the actions of the CPS and the police, help which might be possible if the citizens were to wake up to what is going on. (She would very likely have wanted to forbid the "Ida case being published also.)

The background to what she says about such videos being allowed in court cases is the following: The newspapers have never been willing to publish what really goes on in CPS cases, only summaries of some points, often formulated in such a way that the reader is uncertain of whether the family is truthful and dependable. When people started to publish on the internet what went on, first in writing, then also videos, the whole army of Norwegian politicians and correctness adherents rose to declare it illegal. Some battles had to be fought, and they were fought mostly by single individuals or a little group. Among other things, CPS victims and people on their side have had to, again and again, educate people – including politicians who should know – that it is legal to make recordings of conversations in which you yourself take part, even when you do not announce or show that you are making a recording. A family is also normally entitled to publish everything about their own CPS case, including the case documents submitted by either party.

All of this use of the freedom of expression our authorities, the politicians, of course the CPS, and umpty others want to stop. Norwegians are not so freedom-loving and they have little understanding of what it leads to when society's actions against individuals are kept forcibly secret.

Now this mayor has apparently understood that she gets nowhere trying to forbid video recordings of CPS actions altogether. But she wants to limit their use to situations in which the family has hardly any use for them: the courts. The courts always protect the CPS and the police very well from any upset. There are, for instance, umpty court cases against people who have threatened CPS workers, saying e.g. "If you take Peter from me, I don't know what I will do to you."

"- Disse videoene kan høyne terskelen for å gripe inn overfor barn som trenger tidlig innsats, og på den måten påføre barna større traumer, mener Nyheim."
(Nyheim thinks that these video can raise the level for taking action when children need early help, and in this way put greater traumas on the children.)

Here she displays a tactic we often see: holding up the children's interest as a screen against criticism.
Perhaps, instead of stopping documentation on video, one could stop that which is being recorded on video? That would undoubtedly shield the children from the trauma of being taken from their parents with force and considerable brutality.

"…. videoene … [kan] også true rekrutteringen til barnevernet og politi ved at det blir ødeleggende for enkeltansatte, sier Nyheim."
(…. the videos … [may] also threaten the recruitment to the CPS and the police in that it is destructive for the individual workers, says Nyheim.)

We may safely conclude that this is the real motive. They want to continue the actions, but they do not want to be disliked or ostracised or distrusted or disliked or even criticised for it. Why so afraid, if what they do is so wonderful for children?
